The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) released a Notice of Intent form regarding licenses for sports wagering in the Commonwealth, stating that 42 companies had lodged their interest including industry giants MGM Resorts, Bally’s, 888, Caesars, Rush Street FanDuel and DraftKings.
The MGC requested that any entity interested in obtaining a sports wagering license submit this form by August 31, in order for a landscape of interest in sports wagering licenses to come into focus. 42 entities submitted a Notice of Intent to apply for a license to operate sports wagering.
The applicants cover land-based casinos; MGM Springfield, Plainridge Park Casino and Encore Boston Harbor, as well as simulcasting locations Suffolk Downs and Raynham Park.
Category one licences will be awarded to the three casino and slot hall operators, allowing them to offer in-person betting and digital betting through two individually-branded mobile applications or skins. Category two allows live horse racing tracks and simulcasting facilities to offer in-person betting and digital gaming through none skin. Category three allows for up to seven licenses to be granted to companies that offer sports betting through a mobile application or digital platform.
