Oleksii Mylotskyi, Chief Technical Officer at Playson, discusses the role of data in driving games mechanics, debunking the perception of a Clone War but a long-term creativity process of failures and retrospectives, and explains why it is important for the iGaming industry to come together and engage with the wider IT community.
What’s your take on the iGaming technology landscape? Is infrastructure as fast, scalable and secure as it could be relative to other industries?
The iGaming technology landscape is advancing, but there’s still room for improvement compared to industries like high-frequency trading or live streaming. While many operators focus on scalability and performance, achieving ultra-low latency and seamless scalability remains a challenge. By adopting cutting-edge infrastructure and a proactive approach, iGaming can match the speed, scalability, and security of leading industries while enhancing the player experience.
How does Playson engage with the broader IT community?
Much of our engagement with the broader IT community is through our trusted partners who provide services which support our infrastructure. Collaborating with these industry leaders enables us to stay at the forefront of advancements in architecture, scalability, and security. These partnerships allow us to exchange insights and best practices, ensuring that our solutions align with the latest technological trends.
What can the iGaming community as a whole do to better engage with the IT sector, one which is – by and large – more advanced in its infrastructure set-up?
The iGaming community can better engage with the IT sector by fostering deeper collaboration and knowledge exchange with tech leaders and service providers. It is uncommon for igaming to host hackathons, disclose information on technology or any research results. It is due to high-competition nature of the industry that these insights remain hidden. We believe that there are several steps to be taken by the industry as a whole:
– embrace best practices from advanced industries, such as microservices architecture, edge computing, and automation, which can
significantly improve scalability and reliability;
– actively participate in cross-industry events and technical forums to bridge the gap of iGaming perception and communication;
– adopt IT-driven methodologies like DevOps and real-time monitoring, ensuring faster, more secure systems.
Agility is central to sustainable organisational growth. What investments is Playson making into innovative new technologies whilst successfully navigating the intricacies of iGaming’s complex regulatory environment?
Agility is at the core of our growth strategy. We invest heavily in scalable technologies like microservices architecture and multi-region cloud infrastructure, enabling us to adapt quickly to market demands and regulatory changes. Our proprietary xPlatform ensures compliance across multiple jurisdictions, offering seamless scalability and reliability. We’re also embracing data analytics to refine player personalisation and operational efficiency.
To navigate complex regulations, we maintain robust collaboration between our tech and compliance teams, ensuring proactive adherence to evolving standards. These investments empower us to innovate while remaining flexible and sustainable in the highly dynamic iGaming landscape.
What is Playson doing to enhance and modernise its regulatory procedures?
At Playson, we’ve integrated advanced tools, such as our proprietary xPlatform, to streamline compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring seamless game certification and adherence to local regulations. Our internal game configuration system minimises the risk of misconfigurations, while automated monitoring and reporting enhance accuracy and efficiency. Additionally, we’ve invested in ISO-certified data protection measures to safeguard player information, reinforcing our position as a trusted and reliable partner.
What new methods does Playson utilise to test its tech infrastructure, ensuring utmost robustness?
We employ a combination of advanced methodologies to ensure our tech infrastructure is robust and reliable. We utilise automated testing frameworks to simulate high traffic and transactional loads, mimicking real-world conditions at scale. Chaos engineering techniques allow us to identify vulnerabilities by intentionally disrupting systems to ensure they can handle unexpected failures.
Additionally, we leverage continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to streamline updates and catch potential issues early. Our multi-region setups undergo rigorous stress testing, ensuring uptime and performance stability. These methods enable us to deliver seamless, secure, and scalable experiences across all our platforms.
What technologies do you believe will shape the iGaming landscape in years to come? For instance, what is the potential for AI-powered game design and predictive analytics for player behaviour?
The iGaming landscape will be heavily influenced by AI, cloud computing, and 5G technology in the coming years. AI-powered game design offers immense potential for creating personalised, immersive experiences by analysing player preferences and optimising game mechanics in real-time. Yet their time is still to come, as it still lacks a human touch.
Predictive analytics can enhance player retention by anticipating behaviour patterns, enabling tailored promotions and responsible gaming tools. 5G and edge computing will revolutionise gameplay with ultra-low latency and real-time interactivity. Blockchain technology also promises greater transparency and trust in transactions.
With data increasingly driving product direction, is the perception that slots are simply clones of one another unfair? Are iGaming developers being overly criticised for narrowing creative vision?
The perception that slots are merely clones is often unfair, as data-driven design enhances, rather than stifles, creativity. Playson team uses player insights to identify preferences and craft themes, mechanics, and features that resonate with diverse audiences. Data enables us to innovate while minimising risks, ensuring that new games offer engaging and tailored experiences while generating predicted profit.
The challenge lies in balancing player familiarity with originality. While some mechanics may be similar, we continuously push creative boundaries, combining insights with fresh ideas to produce standout games that captivate players and deliver exceptional entertainment value. This approach didn’t let us down for many consecutive years and led us to Tier 1 provider status.
What are Playson’s plans for 2025? What aspects of the business will be in focus?
In 2025, Playson will focus on expanding its presence in regulated markets, enhancing its technological infrastructure, and delivering innovative player experiences. Our plans include diversifying our game portfolio with unique mechanics and engaging themes tailored to evolving player preferences. On the technology side, we’ll continue advancing our xPlatform. Our goal is to have fastest spin time available by local regulation, unbreakable and seamless game session in any location of the world and provide our teams with the opportunity to create without any technology limitations.
Additionally, fostering stronger partnerships and expanding our promotional tools will remain a priority, aligning with our mission to deliver MORE — more entertainment, innovation, and value to players and partners.
